‘Rakibul Hussain has insulted my mother and father’: Assam CM Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 2 hit back at Congress MP Rakibul Hussain over his reported “biscuit” remark, alleging that the Congress leader had insulted his parents.

Speaking to reporters after addressing an election rally at Bechamari in Dhing, Sarma said people are born after drinking their mother's milk and questioned Hussain's remarks about his childhood.

“Rakibul Hussain has insulted my mother and father. People are born after drinking their mother's milk. A person who insults his own mother's milk...” Sarma said.

He said the matter could be taken to court, where, he claimed, the issue could be interesting.

The remarks are the latest in an ongoing exchange between Sarma and Hussain during campaigning for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll.

The two leaders have recently traded barbs over biryani, with Sarma earlier responding to Hussain's remarks with a comment contrasting mother's milk with biryani.

During Friday's campaign, Sarma also targeted AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, saying the veteran politician should consider bringing one of his three sons into active politics.

Sarma said Ajmal was no longer in a position to contest elections and suggested that one of his sons could be brought into politics.

He also said that voters would support the BJP irrespective of caste, community or religion.

Reacting to the Congress-led protest in Delhi, Sarma said such demonstrations would not benefit the party.

The chief minister addressed his third election meeting of the day at the Bechamari playground in Dhing as part of his campaign for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll. The bypoll is scheduled for October 6.

Sarma also commented on former Union minister Rajen Gohain, though details of his remarks were not immediately available in the material provided.
