Retired teacher accused of misconduct with census worker in Nagaon

A retired teacher has been accused of allegedly behaving inappropriately with a young female government worker who had visited a residential complex in Nagaon’s Uraiyagaon area for census-related work, triggering concern among residents.

The incident reportedly took place at Royal Abash, where the resident of flat number 401, identified as retired teacher Diganta Bhagawati, has been accused of misconduct with the woman.

According to the allegations, the woman had gone to the flat in connection with census enumeration when the incident allegedly occurred. Residents claimed that the woman was later seen leaving the flat in tears.

There are also allegations that attempts were made to suppress the incident and that the woman was threatened against speaking about it.

A resident reportedly informed the police about the incident, but alleged that no immediate action was taken by Nagaon Sadar or Itachali police stations.

According to the resident, police said they could not proceed with an investigation as the woman had not lodged a formal complaint.

Meanwhile, the residential management committee reportedly took up the matter with the accused. Bhagawati allegedly admitted to his conduct and submitted a written apology to the committee.

In the apology, the accused reportedly stated that he had shaken hands with the woman and kissed her on the forehead.

The incident has sparked concern among some residents, particularly over the safety of women government employees visiting residential areas as part of official duties.

The allegations have not been independently verified, and no formal police case has been reported so far.
