Ripun Bora says Congress unfazed by exits, hints at counter-strategy after Priyanka Gandhi’s Assam visit
Senior Congress leader Ripun Bora, on February 2,1 said the party is intensifying preparations for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, with senior leadership holding detailed consultations across organisational levels during the recent visit of Priyanka Gandhi to the state.
Bora said Priyanka Gandhi, who is the Screening Committee Chairperson for Assam, interacted extensively with party functionaries ranging from block presidents and district presidents to PCC office bearers. He added that chairpersons of four key committees constituted in view of the elections were also called for discussions.
According to Bora, one-to-one meetings were held to assess the overall political situation in Assam and to chalk out the party’s strategy. “Suggestions were sought from us,” he said, indicating that the leadership is gathering grassroots-level feedback before finalising its electoral roadmap.
Responding to questions about party leaders quitting the Congress, Bora downplayed the impact, stating that such developments are common in every political party. “People quit the BJP, too. This keeps happening. Still, the party is strong. This will have no impact on the Congress,” he asserted.
When asked whether Congress has a strategy to bring BJP leaders into its fold, Bora confirmed that plans are in place but declined to divulge details. “Why should I reveal this to the media? If we say everything in the media, the game will be over. We will show things at the right time,” he said.
