Rising Diju River displaces thousands, relief appeal grows in Assam's Kaliabor

The flood situation in Assam's Kaliabor has deteriorated sharply after the swollen Diju River inundated vast stretches of Shiyalekhaiti under the Kaliabor Revenue Circle, leaving nearly 5,000 people stranded and forcing many families to abandon their homes.

With floodwaters continuing to rise, large parts of the affected area remain submerged, disrupting normal life and isolating residents. Many families have moved to safer locations after their homes were engulfed by the overflowing river, while others continue to remain marooned amid the worsening conditions.

The prolonged inundation has heightened concerns among the affected population, with uncertainty growing over the availability of essential supplies and immediate relief. Residents said the floodwaters have severely affected daily life, making access to food, drinking water and other basic necessities increasingly difficult.

Flood-affected families have appealed to the state government to arrange adequate food, temporary shelter and other essential relief measures for those displaced by the disaster. They urged authorities to expedite rescue and rehabilitation efforts as the situation continues to worsen.

Several flood victims, speaking to the media, expressed their anguish over the devastation caused by the floods and called for immediate government intervention to address the humanitarian crisis in the affected villages.
