Rs 2 lakh crore worth of projects in pipeline for Assam, says Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday, May 12, said infrastructure projects worth nearly Rs 2 lakh crore are in the pipeline for Assam, expressing confidence that the BJP-led government under Himanta Biswa Sarma would honour the trust reposed by the people with a renewed focus on development.
Speaking ahead of Sarma’s swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati, Gadkari said the people of Assam had once again placed their faith in the Bharatiya Janata Party by giving it a third consecutive mandate.
“The trust that the people of Assam have shown in the BJP for the third time will be justified. Assam will continue to develop,” Gadkari told reporters.
He said his ministry has planned large-scale infrastructure investment in the State.
“From my department alone, projects worth nearly Rs 2 lakh crore are in the pipeline. We will contribute towards making Assam progressive, prosperous, and economically stronger,” he said.
Gadkari arrived at the airport in Guwahati ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is set to take oath as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance begins its third straight term in the State.
Sarma was unanimously elected leader of the BJP and NDA Legislature Parties during a meeting attended by senior leaders of alliance partners, including the Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front.
Ahead of the ceremony, Sarma announced that Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Chandra Mohan Patowary, and Ajanta Neog would take oath as ministers alongside him. He also named Ranjit Das as the NDA’s candidate for the post of Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
The development follows the NDA’s decisive victory in the Assam Assembly elections, where the alliance won 102 seats in the 126-member House. The BJP secured 82 seats, while its allies AGP and BPF won 10 seats each.
The opposition alliance led by the Indian National Congress secured 19 seats, while Raijor Dal and All India United Democratic Front won two seats each. The All India Trinamool Congress secured one seat, while the Assam Jatiya Parishad failed to open its account.
