Rs 48000 crore Assam Power Project to become northeast’s largest power asset: Jeet Adani

Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence and Aerospace, on September 20 said the upcoming 3,200 MW Ultra-Supercritical Thermal Power Project in Assam’s Dhubri district represents a major responsibility for the Adani Group and is aimed at creating a new investment climate and employment opportunities in the state.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday, September 20laid the foundation stone for Adani Power Limited’s (APL) 3,200 MW Ultra-Supercritical Thermal Power Plant (USTPP) at Chapar in lower Assam’s Dhubri district.

Addressing the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Jeet Adani said the project entails an investment of Rs 48,000 crore and is expected to become the largest power generation asset in the Northeast once operational.

“More than pride, it is a huge responsibility that we are bringing such a big project to Assam. To create a new climate of investment for this state, to create jobs, that is our responsibility today and we promise that we will do right by Assam,” Adani said.

He said the project would support industrial growth and enable businesses to expand by providing additional power generation capacity.

“The upcoming 3,200 MW Thermal Power Project by Adani Power represents an investment of Rs 48,000 Crore. In just a few years, this project will become the largest power generation asset in the Northeast. It will fuel industries, give businesses the power to scale, and help bring affordable electricity to homes,” he said.

Adani said the construction phase would involve thousands of workers, engineers, technicians, contractors and suppliers, while also generating economic activity for businesses in the surrounding areas.

“Building this project will bring together thousands of workers, engineers, technicians, contractors, and suppliers. It will spark massive economic activity for local businesses. The youth will find excellent jobs close to home, and the communities living around the project will be our partners in this progress,” he said.

He also outlined other projects being undertaken by the Adani Group in Assam, including the development of an Aero City near the new Guwahati terminal.

“You must have seen the inauguration of the new Guwahati Terminal this year. We are developing an entire Aero City right in front of it. Then our Thermal Power Project is coming up,” Adani said.

He added that two cement projects and a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) project are also planned in the state.

“These are our three big projects right now and two cement projects are coming up and one MRO project is also to be started soon,” he said.

The 3,200 MW project at Chapar is being developed as an ultra-supercritical thermal power plant, with the investment and employment generation associated with the project expected to have an impact on the local economy and the wider Northeast.
