Seat-sharing talks underway, will announce in a few days: Assam Minister Atul Bora
Senior Assam minister and president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Atul Bora, on Thursday, March 5, confirmed that preliminary discussions regarding the distribution of seats for the Assembly polls have already taken place between the AGP leadership, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Speaking to reporters, Bora said the talks were part of ongoing consultations among alliance partners aimed at finalising a mutually agreeable seat-sharing arrangement ahead of the elections.
“Yesterday we had a discussion with the BJP and the Chief Minister regarding seat sharing. We will announce the details in a few days after a formal discussion,” Bora stated.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has almost completed the process of finalising candidates for a large majority of constituencies, while parallel discussions with its alliance partners on seat-sharing arrangements are currently underway.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 4 said the party has nearly finalised candidate panels for around 90 Assembly constituencies following internal deliberations at the BJP’s state headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan. The late-night meeting reviewed the political landscape across constituencies and assessed potential candidates as part of the party’s preparations for the forthcoming polls.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Sarma indicated that the BJP is likely to release its first list of candidates between March 10 and 12, signalling that the party is entering the final phase of electoral preparations.
