Security breach at NIT Silchar, male student enters girls' hostel naked; causes panic
A security breach was reported at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar’s girls’ hostel on Friday, April 3 night, raising concerns over campus safety and surveillance mechanisms.
According to preliminary information, a male student from the MBA department allegedly entered the hostel premises and was found moving within corridors and common areas in an inappropriate condition. The incident triggered panic among residents, many of whom raised an alarm soon after noticing the intrusion.
Hostel authorities and security personnel responded to the situation and escorted the student out of the premises. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
Institutional sources indicated that the matter is under investigation. Authorities are examining the circumstances that enabled the breach, including possible lapses in access control and security deployment.
While no official confirmation has been issued regarding the student’s condition, initial inputs suggest that intoxication or a possible psychological episode may have been factors. Officials have not yet substantiated these claims.
An internal inquiry has been initiated to determine accountability and recommend measures to prevent recurrence. The institute is expected to review its hostel security protocols in light of the incident.
