Selected PwBD candidate allegedly denied Assam Government job over medical board dispute
Narayan Mahanta of Uluwani in Kaliabor, has allegedly been denied appointment to an Assam government post despite being duly selected through the ADR recruitment process, triggering allegations of an erroneous decision by the government-constituted medical board.
Mahanta, who has completely lost vision in one eye, was selected for appointment to a Grade-III post under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) category. As part of the recruitment process, he was issued a medical certificate by the Joint Director of Health Services (JDHS), Nagaon district, certifying him as 50 per cent visually impaired, thereby meeting the eligibility criteria for the post.
However, the medical board constituted by the state government reportedly rejected the certificate issued by the JDHS, leading to the cancellation of Mahanta’s appointment. The decision has effectively deprived an otherwise eligible candidate of employment, raising concerns over procedural fairness and medical assessment norms.
The rejection has left Mahanta and his family distressed and disillusioned, with allegations that the medical board’s decision contradicts official certification issued by a competent authority.
The family has now appealed to the Assam government to intervene in the matter, urging a review of the medical board’s decision and seeking reconsideration of Mahanta’s appointment in the interest of justice.
