Several BJP leaders likely to join Congress ahead of Bohag Bihu: APCC chief Bhupen Borah

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Borah has claimed that several prominent leaders from different political parties, including the BJP, are in contact with the Congress and are likely to switch sides ahead of Bohag Bihu.

Addressing the media on March 1, Borah refrained from revealing specific names but asserted that the Congress is gearing up for the 2026 Assembly elections with a united front. He emphasized that party members, along with student and women’s organizations, would actively participate in the election process from the grassroots level.

"In the coming days, multiple leaders will leave the saffron party and join the Congress. We are preparing for the 2026 elections collectively, ensuring participation from booth-level workers to organizational wings," Borah stated.

His remarks have intensified political discussions in Assam, as speculations rise about potential defections from the BJP and other parties to the Congress camp.
