Silchar accident victim battles for life; students urge Assam CM to fund critical treatment
A group of university students has appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to extend urgent financial assistance for the treatment of Rosy Deb, an MBA student who was critically injured in a road accident in Silchar.
The incident occurred on March 28 at the Ambikapatti area, where Rosy was reportedly hit by a car driven by an allegedly drunk driver. The impact left her with severe injuries, particularly to her spine. She was initially rushed to Silchar Medical College by local residents, where doctors, after preliminary treatment, advised that she requires advanced medical care abroad due to the seriousness of her spinal injury.
Police had arrested the driver along with two others following the incident. However, they were later released, reportedly under legal pressure, raising concerns among locals and the student community.
Rosy’s family later shifted her to AIIMS Guwahati for further treatment, but the high cost of medical care has made it difficult for them to continue. With limited financial means, the family is struggling to arrange the funds required for her life-saving treatment.
As the situation gained attention, university students came together to raise funds in an attempt to support her. However, the amount collected so far has proven insufficient given the scale of medical expenses involved.
In a renewed appeal, the students have now directly urged the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure that Rosy receives the necessary treatment, even if it requires being sent abroad. They have called on the state government to step in and help save her life, emphasising the urgency of the situation.
