Silchar civic polls: Himanta promises Rs 1 crore development fund for every ward
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 30 campaigned for BJP candidates in the upcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation elections and announced that Rs 1 crore would be allocated for development in each ward if the party's candidates are elected.
Addressing a large BJP election meeting at the Police Parade Ground in Silchar, Sarma sought votes for the party's candidates contesting all 42 wards of the municipal corporation.
A large number of BJP workers, supporters and residents from different parts of the city attended the meeting, which was also addressed by party ministers, MLAs and other leaders.
Sarma targeted the Congress during his speech and highlighted what he described as the BJP government's development work in Silchar. He also spoke about civic services and future development plans for the city.
The chief minister said steps would be taken to provide Rs 1 crore for development in each ward if BJP candidates are elected.
He also announced plans for several projects aimed at the overall development of Silchar.
Sarma also spoke about allegations concerning candidates' documents. He said if any candidate's certificate is proven to be fake, legal action would be taken and the person concerned could face imprisonment.
The chief minister further said he would return to Silchar during the upcoming Durga Puja festivities.
Polling for the Silchar Municipal Corporation elections is scheduled for October 3, with counting to be held on October 6.
