Silchar Medical College principal questioned in spa case; police probe expands

The principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, was questioned by Cachar Police in connection with the ongoing investigation into an alleged illegal activities case linked to a spa centre in Silchar, police sources said.

According to the investigation, police suspect that Dr. Gupta owns a room that was rented out to one of the two spa centres operating inside a shopping mall in Silchar city, where a recent police raid was conducted.

On Friday night, police raided the two spa centres and detained 28 women as part of an operation related to allegations of prostitution.

Following the raid, investigators began examining the ownership and rental arrangements of the premises used by the spa centres. As part of this probe, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta and his wife were questioned for around one and a half hours at the office of the Superintendent of Police, Cachar.

Police officials have not yet announced any formal charges against the principal or his family members, and the investigation remains underway.

Sources said investigators are also examining whether other influential individuals may have had links to the establishments under scrutiny.

Cachar Police have appealed to the public not to draw conclusions until the investigation is completed and official findings are released.
