Silchar Medical College Principal says he and wife are landlords, not owners of spa under scanner

Responding to allegations linked to the high-profile Silchar spa case, Silchar Medical College Principal Dr Bhaskar Gupta and his wife, Sharmishtha Gupta, have issued a detailed clarification, asserting that they are not the owners of the spa but only the owners of the premises where it operated.

The couple stated that the property had been rented out through a legally executed rental agreement and that they had no knowledge of the activities being carried out inside the establishment.

According to the Guptas, the rental agreement explicitly prohibited any illegal activities on the premises and stipulated that the agreement would be terminated if such activities were found to be taking place. 

They said the lease has since been cancelled following the surfacing of the allegations surrounding the spa.

Expressing regret over the incident, the couple said they were deeply embarrassed and distressed by the developments. They added that they are extending full cooperation to the police and have called for a fair, impartial and comprehensive investigation to bring the truth to light.
