Sivasagar admin to act against encroachment at historic Jamuna wetland on November 7

The Sivasagar district administration will launch an eviction drive at the historic Jamuna wetland on November 7 to remove alleged encroachments, following a decision taken at a meeting between the administration and the All Tai Ahom Students' Union (ATASU).

The decision comes after ATASU carried out an eviction campaign on its own for three consecutive days, during which its members demolished structures allegedly built by encroachers at the wetland.

In protest against the encroachment, ATASU had called a 12-hour Sivasagar district bandh on November 6. However, the district administration subsequently announced that it would conduct an eviction drive at the site on November 7.

Following the administration's announcement, ATASU withdrew its bandh call.

The administration is now set to carry out the eviction operation against the alleged encroachments at the historic waterbody.
