Sivasagar DC office staff protest against Akhil Gogoi over alleged misbehaviour with DC

Employees of the Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner’s office staged a protest on August 21, against Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, alleging that he misbehaved with the district commissioner during a meeting on August 20.

The employees protested by tying black cloth around their heads and observing a work boycott, expressing their displeasure over the alleged conduct of the MLA towards the district commissioner.

The protest came a day after Gogoi expressed strong displeasure over alleged negligence in the distribution of government relief to flood-affected people in the district.

During a discussion with the Sivasagar district commissioner on Wednesday, Gogoi questioned the administration over the delay in providing financial assistance to flood-affected residents and demanded that the beneficiaries receive the relief before officials leave the area.

“You may leave from here, but you will have to give my people the money. You cannot run this place by simply following ministers around,” Gogoi said, directing sharp remarks at the district commissioner.

The MLA urged the district administration to ensure that flood-affected people receive government assistance on time and said negligence in the distribution of relief would not be tolerated.

The incident subsequently triggered a protest by employees of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, who objected to what they described as the MLA’s alleged misbehaviour with the district commissioner.

The employees are expected to hold a meeting to decide on their further course of action.

Gogoi has in recent weeks repeatedly raised concerns over alleged delays and lapses in the distribution of government assistance to flood-affected people in Sivasagar and criticised the district administration and the state government over the issue.
