Sivasagar police raid rented room over alleged cyber fraud, seize bank and SIM cards

Sivasagar Sadar Police conducted a search at a rented accommodation in Jengnikatia and seized multiple bank accounts, SIM cards, ATM cards and mobile phones in connection with an alleged cyber fraud case.

Police searched the rented room of a youth identified as Arman Ali, who had been staying at a house in the Jengnikatia area, following allegations that he was involved in cybercrime.

During the search, police seized eight passbooks, two cheque books, eight SIM cards, seven ATM cards and four mobile phones from the room.

Police also seized an i10 vehicle bearing registration number AS 04 H 9622 and a scooter bearing registration number AS 04 AH 6532.

According to police, the youth was allegedly involved in defrauding several people and siphoning off money through online transactions.

Police subsequently launched another operation in the Jengnikatia area based on information allegedly provided by Arman Ali during questioning. The operation was aimed at locating another person, identified as Nazim Ali, who police suspect of being linked to the alleged cyber fraud.

However, police said Nazim Ali fled before the team could reach the location.

Police sources said Nazim Ali is the assistant general secretary of the Sivasagar district committee of an organisation called Bagharijika Aikya Mancha.

Investigators are also probing a suspected link between the accused and an alleged online fraud network operating from Maharashtra.

The police are continuing their investigation to establish the source of the seized bank and digital documents and identify other individuals who may be connected to the alleged cyber fraud network.
