Sports infrastructure key to developing young talent in Assam: Minister Biswajit Daimary

Assam is focusing on developing sports infrastructure and providing better training facilities to young athletes to help them compete at national and international events, state minister Biswajit Daimary said.

Daimary said the state government was working to provide athletes with the necessary infrastructure, training and support to improve their performance and expand opportunities in different sporting disciplines.

“Our future lies in our youth. That is why young people are being encouraged to participate in various sports,” the minister said, stressing the importance of developing sports infrastructure and supporting players.

He said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was taking initiatives to strengthen sports infrastructure across the state to enable young athletes to train locally.

The minister added that the government was also sending players to other states whenever necessary to ensure they have access to better infrastructure and specialised training facilities.

His remarks come as the All Assam Karate Association (AAKA) organised a two-day state-level karate championship in Assam, drawing around 1,300 participants.

AAKA president Diganta Kalita said the championship had been organised successfully, with the association making arrangements for the large number of participants.

Kalita said the event reflected the association's efforts to strengthen karate in Assam and provide a platform for athletes to showcase their skills.

“After a long time, we have managed to bring Assam karate to this level, and we will continue our efforts to take it further,” he said.

The participation of around 1,300 athletes highlighted the scale of the state-level championship, while the association expressed its commitment to expanding the sport's reach in Assam.
