A spotted dear, also called as a chital/cheetal, died due to the unavailability of timely medical attention and negligence of the officials at Assam's Gauripur Veterinary Dispensary in Dhubri.
The spotted deer was rescued from Batuatuli area, located under Balajan police station.
According to sources, the veterinary doctor, identified as Dr. Jamsher Ali Ahmed, famous for providing fitness certificates to illegal cattle smugglers for transportation, failed to reach the hospital on time.
The deer was rushed to the hospital by Balajan police, but it succumbed to its condition after waiting for hours without treatment.
The lifeless body of the deer now lies in front of the hospital premises, inviting strong reactions from conscious citizens and animal welfare groups. A team of forest personnel from the Gauripur Forest Department has already reached the hospital to take stock of the situation.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the negligence of veterinary services in the region and highlighted the urgent need for better infrastructure and accountability in animal healthcare.
Local residents and wildlife activists have expressed their anger over the incident, demanding a thorough investigation and strict action against the alleged said corrupt Dr. Ali for the lapses.
