A stationery shop in Adabari village was completely destroyed by fire on September 5, leaving the owner injured and causing losses estimated at Rs 6-7 lakh.
Bapukan Kalita's shop in Mukalmua area of Nalbari district caught fire in what local residents believe was caused by an electrical short circuit. The blaze quickly engulfed the entire establishment, reducing books, supplies, and equipment to ashes.
Kalita sustained injuries while trying to save his business and was rushed to Adabari Mahatma Gandhi Model Hospital by villagers who witnessed the incident. His current condition remains stable.
Village residents immediately alerted the fire department and worked alongside firefighters to control the spreading flames. Despite their combined efforts, the shop could not be saved from complete destruction.
The incident has left the local community shaken, as Kalita's stationery shop served students and residents across the area.
Fire officials are investigating the exact cause of the blaze, though preliminary assessments point to faulty electrical wiring as the likely trigger.
