Stolen goods worth crores recovered from scrap yard in Nagaon, father-son duo held

A massive cache of suspected stolen materials worth crores of rupees was recovered from a scrap yard and residence in Nagaon on Saturday during a police operation at Morokolong Charikhuti area.

The recovery was made from a scrap dealing unit allegedly operated by Hamid Ali and his son Azahar Uddin Ali. Police said the raid was launched after the arrest of a suspected thief by Haibargaon Police earlier in the day.

Based on information provided during interrogation, police conducted a search operation at the scrap yard, locally known as a “kabari dump,” where they allegedly uncovered a large quantity of suspected stolen items, including brass and aluminium materials as well as electric and communication cables belonging to Assam Power Distribution Company Limited and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.

Officials estimated the market value of the seized materials to be worth several crores of rupees.

According to police sources, investigators suspect that the father-son duo had been purchasing stolen goods for years and operating the scrap yard as a hub for disposal of stolen property.

Tension erupted in the area after police detained the duo, with family members allegedly attempting to obstruct the police operation. Additional paramilitary personnel were later deployed to bring the situation under control.

Amid the commotion, Azahar Uddin Ali reportedly managed to flee from the spot, while police continued their operation and investigation into the case.
