Suspected meat, food items found scattered near Shiva Temple in Assam’s Bongaigaon, probe on

Tension gripped parts of Assam’s Bongaigaon district after a disturbing incident was reported near a prominent place of worship, raising concerns over a possible attempt to disrupt communal harmony.

According to officials, pieces of suspected meat and khichdi-like food items were found scattered across the courtyards and splashed onto the boundary walls of nearly 20 households in Kokila village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kokila Police Outpost of Abhayapuri Police Station. The affected homes are located in and around the Kokila Shiva Temple, a key religious site in the area.

Local residents expressed shock and anger over the incident, alleging that the act appeared deliberate. Villagers pointed out that a religious congregation had been organised in Kokila over the past few days and suspect that unidentified miscreants may have targeted the area with the intention of disturbing communal peace and polluting the surroundings.

Following the incident, the Superintendent of Police of Bongaigaon district, accompanied by senior police officials, rushed to the spot. Police have cordoned off the affected areas and launched a preliminary investigation to ascertain the motive behind the act and identify those responsible.

Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken once the culprits are identified. Police have also appealed to residents to maintain calm and refrain from spreading rumours, stressing that law and order will be upheld and communal harmony preserved.
