Tension at Morigaon fuel station as journalist accused of violating district order

A tense situation unfolded at a Nayara petrol pump on the Nagaon-bound road in Assam’s Morigaon district after a local journalist allegedly violated district administration rules restricting fuel sales in open containers.

According to reports, the district administration had imposed a ban on dispensing fuel in containers as a safety measure. However, a journalist identified as Bikash Deka reportedly arrived at the fuel station with a container and demanded petrol, defying the directive.

When fuel station staff refused to comply, citing official orders, the journalist allegedly became agitated and engaged in a heated argument with employees. He also recorded videos on his mobile phone, leading to a chaotic situation at the outlet.

Sources further claimed that the video was later circulated on social media, where the journalist allegedly shifted blame onto the fuel station staff while downplaying his own actions. The incident has triggered sharp reactions among local residents and civil society members.

Locals questioned how a journalist, who is expected to be aware of administrative regulations, could openly defy them. “Being a journalist does not place anyone above the law,” residents said, adding that such actions undermine the credibility of the profession and harass on-duty workers.

The incident has sparked debate in the district, with many now watching closely to see what action the administration will take in response.
