Tension erupts after dead cow found inside Kali Temple premises along India–Bangladesh border
Tension gripped Manikkona village along the India–Bangladesh border in Assam’s Sribhumi district after a dead cow was discovered inside the premises of a Kali temple, triggering outrage and protests by local residents. The incident led to a volatile situation in the border village, with angry villagers demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible.
The incident occurred at the Kali temple located in Manikkona village under the North Karimganj constituency. The sight of the carcass inside the sacred temple compound sparked shock and resentment among devotees and residents, who termed the act a deliberate attempt to desecrate a place of worship and disturb communal harmony in the sensitive border region.
Upon receiving information, a large contingent of Sadar police rushed to the spot to prevent escalation and restore order. Senior police officials cordoned off the area and initiated a detailed investigation into the incident. Security presence in the village was intensified to avoid any untoward situation.
According to allegations made by local residents, the cow belonged to a neighbouring individual identified as Ajmal Hussain. Villagers alleged that the animal was intentionally killed and dumped within the temple premises with malicious intent. The act, they claimed, was aimed at provoking communal sentiments and defiling the religious sanctity of the shrine.
Police sources confirmed that Ajmal Hussain, the alleged owner of the cow, is currently absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him. Authorities have assured strict legal action against those found guilty and urged residents to maintain peace while the investigation continues.
