Tension erupts during Eid gathering in Assam's Bongaigaon, on-duty cop hurt
An unpleasant situation unfolded on Eid al-Fitr in Srijangram Borghola area of Assam's Bongaigaon, where an on-duty police personnel was injured following a clash with a group of people.
The incident took place on a bridge over the Aie River, where a large number of people had gathered to mark the occasion. Due to heavy crowding, police personnel were deployed to manage the situation.
According to reports, trouble began when police attempted to stop a speeding motorcycle on the bridge. The rider reportedly tried to flee, leading to an accident. Soon after, tensions escalated, and a section of the crowd allegedly misbehaved with police and resorted to physical confrontation.
During the scuffle, a police constable identified as Nazrul Islam sustained injuries.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. Three individuals have been detained for questioning in connection with the incident.
Police said that an investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events and take necessary action.
