Tezpur University PhD scholar alleges ragging, says complaints were ignored

A PhD scholar from the Department of Mass Communication at Tezpur University has alleged harassment and threats to his life in connection with an alleged ragging incident, with videos and messages related to the matter circulating on social media.

The scholar, identifying himself as Samarth Mishra, claimed that he had approached faculty members and university authorities regarding the alleged harassment but said his concerns were not taken seriously.

In the circulated videos, Mishra further alleged that one professor laughed at his situation and advised him to change his hostel instead of taking action on the complaint.

He also claimed that two individuals, identified as Purvesh Yadav and Manoj Deori, were present with him during the alleged incident. Mishra further alleged that he was administered sedatives without his knowledge.

Stating that his life is at risk, the scholar appealed for help through the videos and written messages.

Meanwhile, sources in the department said the individual has been summoned by the Head of Department and is currently being questioned regarding the allegations.

Sources from the batch also indicated that Samarth had reportedly been behaving unusually for a few days before the ragging allegations surfaced.

The claims have triggered concern on campus and online, with calls for an impartial inquiry into the matter.

There has been no official statement yet from Tezpur University regarding the allegations. The claims made in the circulated videos have not been independently verified.
