Tezpur’s iconic Mahabhairav Temple gears up for grand two-day Maha Shivaratri celebration

As devotees across India prepare to celebrate the sacred festival of Maha Shivaratri, temples dedicated to Lord Shiva in Assam are witnessing heightened spiritual fervour and elaborate arrangements. In Tezpur, the historic Mahabhairav Temple is all set to host a grand two-day celebration, drawing thousands of devotees to its revered premises.

The renowned Sri Sri Mahabhairav Devalaya, considered one of Asia’s prominent Shiva shrines, has completed extensive preparations ahead of the auspicious occasion. Temple authorities informed that the Chaturdashi Tithi will commence at 4:48 am on Saturday, February 14 and conclude at 5:32 am on February 16. The sacred rituals of Maha Shivaratri will be observed in four traditional ‘prahar’ (phases), in accordance with age-old customs.

The temple complex has been beautifully decorated for the special puja, creating a vibrant and devotional atmosphere. Priests and volunteers have been engaged in meticulous preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of rituals and crowd management.

Every year, the Mahabhairav Temple witnesses an overwhelming turnout on Maha Shivaratri, with devotees arriving from different parts of Assam and beyond. Anticipating a similar footfall this year, the temple management committee has intensified arrangements, including separate queues for men and women to facilitate orderly darshan.

Special provisions have also been made for the distribution of mah-prasad and bhog, along with the ceremonial offering of milk as part of the sacred observances. Authorities have assured that all necessary measures are in place to ensure a safe and spiritually fulfilling experience for devotees.

With chants of “Har Har Mahadev” echoing across the premises, Tezpur’s Mahabhairav Temple stands ready to mark one of the most significant festivals in the Hindu calendar with grandeur and devotion.
