‘They may eat biryani, take money, but vote for AIUDF’: Badruddin Ajmal ahead of Nagaon bypoll

AIUDF chief and Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll candidate Badruddin Ajmal has expressed strong confidence in his party's prospects, claiming that the AIUDF alone will secure more than 75 per cent of the votes in the upcoming election.

Speaking to the media during his campaign in Morigaon, Ajmal claimed that all the other opposition parties combined would be confined to around 25 per cent of the votes.

Ajmal also rejected allegations that the AIUDF was pursuing religion-based politics and issued a challenge to his critics.

“I have not spoken about religion even for a single day during the entire campaign. My open challenge is that if anyone can prove that I have done politics based on religion, I will retire from politics immediately,” he said.

‘People go for biryani, khichdi’

Taking a dig at the crowds attending rallies organised by rival parties, Ajmal alleged that people were attending such meetings for food and other benefits but would vote for the AIUDF on polling day.

He claimed that people were going to rival meetings to take money or eat biryani and khichdi, but would ultimately support the AIUDF when they cast their votes.

Ajmal also reacted sharply when asked about Congress MP and Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, dismissing the question and rejecting the claims associated with him.

The AIUDF chief has repeatedly expressed confidence about winning the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll. Earlier in the campaign, he had said the AIUDF would emerge victorious and also targeted both the BJP and Congress.

The Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll is scheduled for October 6. Ajmal is contesting against BJP-led NDA candidate Debasish Sharma and Congress candidate Sibamoni Bora, among others.
