Thieves loot school assets, damage infrastructure in Assam's Ledo, sparks security concern

Theft incidents continue to rise across different parts of Margherita co-district, creating concern among residents and local institutions.

In the latest incident, thieves allegedly targeted Ledo Sankardev ME School during the night and carried out a major theft while also causing extensive damage to school property.

According to reports, unidentified miscreants broke open the school’s door and entered the premises. After gaining access, they vandalised parts of the school and forced open two steel almirahs kept inside the building.

During the incident, several important and valuable school documents were reportedly stolen. In addition, the accused took away six ceiling fans, two gas cylinders, one motor, two tablet devices, and two batteries from the campus.

School authorities also reported that the perpetrators damaged multiple items inside the institution before fleeing the scene.

The incident has added to growing concerns over the increasing number of theft cases in the region, with reports suggesting that educational institutions, monasteries, and temples have also become targets.

Following information about the incident, personnel from Ledo Police reached the school and initiated an investigation into the matter. Efforts are underway to identify those involved and recover the stolen property.
