Three arrested for theft at Barpeta health centre; stolen solar batteries, inverter recovered

Three persons have been arrested in connection with a burglary at the Keotkuchi Primary Health Centre in Assam's Barpeta district, where thieves allegedly decamped with the facility's solar power system and other equipment earlier this month.

According to police, the case came to light after Dr Shahinur Rahman, In-charge Health Officer of Keotkuchi Primary Health Centre, lodged an FIR at Barpeta Police Station on July 15. In the complaint, he alleged that unidentified miscreants had broken into the health centre during the night of July 3 by breaking the main door lock.

The burglars allegedly stole the solar power system, eight batteries, an inverter, CCTV cameras, a monitor along with its equipment, and escaped after breaking the window grill of the cold chain room at the rear of the building.

Based on the complaint, Barpeta Police registered Barpeta PS Case No. 260/2026 under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

During the investigation, police identified three suspects as Suna Miya (34) of Garemari Pathar, Mohibul Islam (26) of Garemari Habi, and Mograb Ali of Garemari Pathar, all residents of Barpeta district.

Police conducted searches at the accused persons' residences and recovered four stolen solar system batteries and one inverter machine, which were seized as evidence.

The three accused were arrested and produced before the competent court.

Police said efforts are underway to recover the remaining stolen items and further investigation into the case is in progress.
