Three arrested in Assam's Cachar for alleged gang rape of two Mizoram minors; woman held for filming survivors at court

Three persons have been arrested in Assam's Cachar district for allegedly abducting and gang raping two minor girls from Mizoram, while a woman has also been detained for allegedly filming the survivors inside the court premises and attempting to circulate the video on social media.
Addressing the media on August 6, Cachar Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rajat Kumar Pal said the incident was reported on August 3, when the two minor girls from Kolasib district in Mizoram were allegedly lured into a vehicle and taken to Pakaihbil under Dholai Police Station in Cachar district.
Police said the girls were allegedly sexually assaulted before being abandoned by the roadside, following which the accused fled the scene.
After receiving the complaint, Dholai Police launched an investigation and arrested three accused. They were produced before a court on Tuesday and remanded to police custody for further interrogation. The statements of both minor survivors have also been recorded.
As part of the investigation, police on Thursday took the accused to the alleged crime scene and conducted a crime scene reconstruction to verify the sequence of events. A vehicle suspected to have been used in the offence has also been seized.
Meanwhile, police detained a woman for allegedly recording videos of the two minor survivors when they were brought to court. According to police, she allegedly attempted to circulate the footage on social media. The woman, reportedly a resident of Bhagabazar in Dholai, is being questioned.
ASP (Crime) Rajat Kumar Pal said the investigation is continuing and further details cannot be disclosed at this stage in the interest of the probe.
Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant provisions of law. Authorities said strict legal action will be taken against all those found involved in the case.
