Three Bangladeshi nationals detained at Assam’s Lumding railway junction during RPF operation
Three Bangladeshi nationals were detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) during an operation at Lumding Railway Junction in Assam while travelling aboard the Guwahati–Sairang Express, train number 15609, during the Durga Puja festivities.
The detained individuals have been identified as Bilal Hussain, Amir Ali and Hasan Mia, reportedly residents of Sunamganj district in Bangladesh.
According to information available, the three allegedly entered India around three months ago by crossing the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Murshidabad region. They reportedly told authorities that they had paid Rs 15,000 to an alleged tout to facilitate their entry into the country.
After entering India, the three reportedly travelled to Uttar Pradesh, where they worked as labourers before being detained by the RPF at Lumding Railway Junction.
The incident has raised questions about the alleged involvement of intermediaries in facilitating unauthorised cross-border movement. However, further details about the circumstances of their detention and the investigation remain awaited.
An official statement from the RPF is yet to be issued. Further details regarding the legal action initiated against the three individuals and the alleged role of the intermediary are also awaited.
