Three burnt to death, two injured after vehicle crashes into pole in Assam’s Nagaon

Three people were burnt to death and two others were critically injured after a vehicle they were travelling in caught fire following a collision with a streetlight pole in Assam’s Nagaon district, officials said.

The accident took place at Kenapatty in Puranigudam when the vehicle, bearing registration number AR 01 W 5107, was travelling from Arunachal Pradesh towards Guwahati. According to preliminary information, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into a streetlight pole located in the middle of the road.

The vehicle caught fire shortly after the collision. Three occupants were trapped inside and died after being burnt in the fire, while two others sustained serious injuries.

The injured have been identified as Vikas Kumar and Sonu Kumar, both of whom are reportedly in critical condition. They were shifted to Guwahati for further treatment.

The occupants were reportedly from Bihar. According to the information available, the three people who died had boarded the vehicle midway through the journey.

The vehicle was owned by Vikas Kumar, while Sonu Kumar was driving it at the time of the accident.

Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the crash.
