Three men rescued after alleged mob assault in Assam's Nagaon riverine area over theft suspicion

A serious case of alleged moral policing and mob assault was reported from the Dumdumia riverine area in Assam’s Nagaon district, where three men were allegedly tied to a tree and brutally assaulted on suspicion of theft.

The incident reportedly took place at Ranitapo Char under Dumdumia.

According to allegations, the victims, identified as Suruj Ali, Jahirul Islam and Mohammad Ali were forcibly taken from their homes by a group of individuals who accused them of theft. The trio was allegedly tied to a tree and assaulted with iron rods. The attackers also reportedly threatened to chop off their hands and legs with sharp weapons.

The victims were later rescued by a police team led by Sub-Inspector Bishal Kathar from the Dumdumia Police Patrol Post.

Several individuals, including Golzar Hussain, Ruhul Amin, Mobarak Hussain, Merajul Islam, Babul Islam, Mojibur Rahman, Aijol Islam and his wife, have been accused of involvement in the incident.

Sources alleged that the accused took advantage of the remoteness of the Brahmaputra char region, located in a difficult-to-access area connected to Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district, to carry out the assault.

Police are investigating the matter, and further legal action is awaited.
