Three more arrested in Morikolong robbery case in Assam; SIT constituted for investigation

Nagaon Police has arrested three more persons in connection with the sensational robbery case reported from Morikolong in Assam’s Nagaon district, officials said on Sunday, May 10.

Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das said the arrests were made during a police operation in Lakhimpur. The accused have been identified as Rajibur Rahman, Rezzak Ali, and Nur Hussain Ali.

Police said that based on the confession of the accused, two machetes allegedly used in the robbery were recovered from an abandoned location in Morikolong. Investigators also seized a Mahindra Bolero believed to have been used during the crime. The owner of the vehicle has been called in for questioning.

During the investigation, police also recovered photographs of imitation gold jewellery allegedly looted from Ranjit Saikia from the mobile phones of the accused.

Earlier, police had arrested three other accused in connection with the case — Umar Ali, Mintu Hussain and Nazirul Islam.

To ensure a thorough investigation, the Nagaon SSP has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of the Additional Superintendent of Police.
