Tourists, both domestic and international, are flocking to the village of Mohapara in Kaziranga, captivated by the traditional handloom industry and Assamese culture. Every year, visitors come to Kaziranga National Park, renowned for its one-horned rhinoceros and world heritage status. After experiencing jeep and elephant safaris, many tourists extend their journey to explore the adjacent villages.

In Mohapara, designated as a handloom industry tourism village by the Government of India, tourists witness the rich cultural tapestry and daily lives of local farmers and indigenous weavers. The village is a vibrant hub where visitors can observe the intricate processes of weaving Assamese dresses, gamosas, and eddy cloths.

A recent group of tourists from Maharashtra visited the residence of Anjali Gogoi, a skilled weaver, where they were shown the entire process of making yarn from edi khala and lata to produce edi cloth. The tourists expressed their admiration for the craftsmanship, noting that the weaving techniques were magical and unlike anything they had seen before.

Mohapara's unique appeal lies in its ability to offer an immersive cultural experience, drawing tourists to each household to witness and purchase handwoven textiles, thereby promoting and preserving the traditional Assamese handloom industry.
