Tragedy in Goalpara: Twin brothers drown in Krishnai river on Goru Bihu
Amid the festive cheer of Goru Bihu, a tragic incident cast a shadow over celebrations in Goalpara, where two minor twin brothers drowned in the Krishnai River on April 14.
The incident occurred at Bhojmala in Krishnai when the two boys had gone to bathe cattle as part of the traditional Goru Bihu rituals. The victims have been identified as Dipankar Nath and Debashish Nath, both Class 9 students and residents of Tengabari village.
According to reports, the twins went missing while bathing the cattle in the river, triggering panic among locals.
A search operation was immediately launched.
A team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot and carried out rescue efforts. After an intensive search, the bodies of both brothers were recovered from the river.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the locality, turning what is usually a day of joy and cultural celebration into one of grief and mourning for the family and the community.
