Tragic fire in Assam's Moirabari leaves one dead, several injured
A devastating fire engulfed Ward No. 6, Barthaal Kachari Gaon, under Dalaigaon Panchayat in Moirabari late at night on February 8, claiming the life of a physically disabled man and leaving multiple residents critically injured. The inferno also caused extensive property damage, with losses estimated at over Rs 10 lakh.
According to initial reports, the fire is believed to have originated from a wooden structure inside a house, rapidly spreading and trapping those inside. As panicked residents attempted to flee, many sustained severe injuries. Tragically, 22-year-old Moinul Haque, who was physically impaired and unable to escape, succumbed to the flames while asleep on his bed.
The blaze completely reduced two families’ homes and belongings to ashes before local residents, along with the Moirabari Fire Department, managed to bring it under control after several hours of relentless efforts. Despite their intervention, nothing could be salvaged from the affected households.
Following the incident, Moirabari police transported Moinul Haque’s body to Morigaon Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination as part of the official investigation. Authorities are currently assessing the cause of the fire and the extent of damages.
