Tragic road accident claims life of minor girl in Assam's Bongaigaon

In a tragic incident, a four-year-old girl lost her life after being hit by a pickup van at Chalantapara Falimari in Jogighopa under Assam’s Bongaigaon district on April 12.

 

The deceased has been identified as Sharifa Akhtar, a resident of Barbhita in Barpeta district. She had come to Jogighopa with her family to visit relatives at Chalantapara.

 

According to reports, the accident occurred while the child was playing on a village road, when a speeding Bolero pickup van struck her. Local residents immediately rushed to the scene and rescued the injured child, taking her to the Chalantapara Community Health Centre for treatment.

 

However, doctors at the health centre declared her brought dead.

 

The vehicle involved in the accident bears the registration number AS 19 AC 9313. Police from Jogighopa Police Station reached the spot soon after the incident and have initiated an investigation.

 

The body has been sent to Bongaigaon Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

 

The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the locality, with residents expressing grief and calling for stricter road safety measures in village areas.
