Two Assam Police personnel arrested in Sribhumi over alleged Rs 14 lakh extortion, SI absconding

Two police personnel have been arrested in Patharkandi in Sribhumi district in connection with the alleged extortion of Rs 14 lakh. Both arrested personnel were posted at Patharkandi Police Station.

According to the allegations, on September 10, a business associate was picked up from Patharkandi Railway Station in a police vehicle and taken to the Chandkhira area, where Rs 14 lakh was allegedly taken from him.

During the investigation, the names of two police personnel, including a sub-inspector posted at Patharkandi Police Station, came to light. Subsequently, Lance Naik Anwar Hussain and Constable Sajal Shuklabaidya were arrested.

According to police sources, searches were conducted at the residences of the two arrested personnel, during which a total of Rs 2 lakh was recovered.

Meanwhile, the accused SI, M. Nangthaiba Singh, is currently absconding. Police have launched a search operation to trace him.

The incident has caused concern in Sribhumi district.
