Two bullets, entry-exit wounds: Nimisha murder accused Asik Ali admitted to GMCH

Asik Ali, the 26-year-old man accused in the murder of Nimisha, sustained two bullet injuries to his right leg and was brought to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) around 5.30 am on Tuesday, doctors said.

Ali has been admitted to the Orthopaedics Department of GMCH for treatment.

According to GMCH superintendent Dr Devajit Choudhury, both bullet injuries had entry and exit wounds. One bullet struck the knee joint from behind and exited through the front, while the other caused an injury near the ankle joint.

“There were two bullet injuries with entry and exit. One at the knee joint, which was shot from behind and the bullet went out from the front side, and another at the ankle joint. The blood vessels and nerves are intact,” Choudhury said.

Ali was initially taken to Garol for medical treatment before being shifted to GMCH.

Doctors said there were no visible signs of injury on any other part of his body.

“We do not know under what circumstances he was brought here. We are treating him as a patient. At present, Ali is out of danger,” the GMCH superintendent said.

Ali's injuries came after he was allegedly shot during an encounter in connection with the murder case.

Ali has been accused of involvement in the death of 21-year-old Nimisha Thakuria, whose body was recovered from a homestay in Guwahati on September 25. Thakuria, a Sociology student at Gauhati University, was a resident of Dharapur under the Azara police station area.

Her body was found at Rudra’s Kitchen Homestay late Friday night, following which police reached the location and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Further details about the circumstances leading to the shooting were not immediately available.
