Two held with large quantity of drugs in late-night police operation in Assam’s Margherita

Margherita Police arrested two individuals and seized a large quantity of suspected drugs during a late-night anti-drug operation on Wednesday, January 21, officials said.

The arrests were made at around 9:35 pm following a vehicle interception at the Margherita Bridge, where police personnel, acting on suspicion, stopped and searched a Tata AC vehicle. During the search, officers recovered drugs packed in 14 containers, concealed inside the vehicle.

The operation was led by Additional Superintendent of Police Fayez Ahmed, under whose supervision the contraband was seized. Police sources said the vehicle did not bear a registration number plate, raising immediate suspicion.

The Tata AC vehicle used for transporting the narcotics has been seized, and two persons have been taken into custody for further questioning. The arrested individuals have been identified as Chengsan Muchang, a resident of No. 2 Nakang Pathar, and Joham Saiko of Dibong, Margherita.

Police said further investigation is underway to determine the source of the contraband and to ascertain whether the accused are linked to a larger drug trafficking network operating in the region. More arrests are not being ruled out.
