Two Jharkhand men arrested with fake currency worth Rs 7.37 lakh at Guwahati's Kamakhya Railway Junction

Two men from Jharkhand were arrested with counterfeit currency notes having a face value of Rs 7.37 lakh during a late-night operation at Kamakhya Railway Junction in Guwahati, police said.
 

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, personnel of the Kamakhya Government Railway Police (GRP) conducted a raid at Platform No. 1 of the railway station, where they apprehended the two accused.
 

The arrested men have been identified as Dayal Das (59) and Golab Sheikh (51), both residents of Pakur district in Jharkhand.
 

During the operation, police seized fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 7.37 lakh from their possession.
 

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly collected the counterfeit currency from an unidentified individual in Rajgarh area of Guwahati. Police said the duo had reportedly paid Rs 2 lakh in genuine currency in exchange for the fake notes.
 

Investigators suspect the accused were planning to transport the counterfeit currency to Jharkhand for circulation.
 

The Kamakhya GRP is continuing to interrogate the two accused to ascertain the source of the fake currency and identify others involved in the racket.
 

Police have registered a case and launched a further investigation to trace the interstate network behind the counterfeit currency operation.
