Two killed as dumper crashes into house in Assam’s South Kamrup
Two people, including a four-year-old child, were killed and three others critically injured after a speeding dumper truck crashed into a house at Borbhitha village under Goroimari in South Kamrup on January 11.
According to reports, the dumper truck allegedly involved in illegal sand transportation, lost control near an embankment and skidded off the road. The vehicle reportedly toppled from the elevated road constructed over the embankment and fell directly onto a residential house.
At the time of the incident, the family of Hasan Ali was asleep inside the house when the dumper rammed into the structure, trapping all five family members under the debris. Panic gripped the area as locals rushed to the spot after hearing cries for help.
Police personnel from Goroimari, Jorshimuli and Sontoli police stations, along with local residents, carried out a rescue operation that continued for several hours. Three members of the family were rescued alive, while two were found dead after the vehicle was removed.
The deceased have been identified as Saleha Khatun and her four-year-old daughter, Majeda Khatun. The injured, Hasina Khatun, Tasleema Khatun and a one-year-old baby girl, were rescued in critical condition and immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The incident has triggered widespread anger among local residents, who alleged that reckless movement of illegally sand-laden dumpers through the area has become a serious threat to lives and property. Locals have demanded strict action against illegal sand mining and transportation to prevent such tragedies in the future.
