Two killed in elephant attack in Assam's Tamulpur village

Two people were killed in a wild elephant attack at Khairani in Assam’s Tamulpur on December 30 night, highlighting the growing risks faced by forest staff and residents in human–elephant conflict zones.

One of the victims, Sanju Islary, was a forest employee with the Kumarikata Forest Division. Officials said he was on duty and part of an effort to drive a herd of elephants away from human habitation when he was attacked and killed.

The second victim, identified as Tapan Timsina, had reportedly come to the village on a visit and was fatally attacked by a wild elephant during the same incident.

Police and forest department officials rushed to the spot soon after the incident. The bodies were recovered and later taken to Kumarikata Police Station for the necessary formalities.

Authorities are assessing the situation in the area amid concerns over recurring human–elephant encounters in the region.
