Umrangso tragedy: Body of coal mine worker Khushi Mohan Rai brought home to Kokrajhar

The body of Khushi Mohan Rai, a worker who lost his life in the Umrangso coal mine mishap, was brought back to his home in Kokrajhar last night. 

Rai, a resident of Sitila Mazergaon in Kokrajhar, travelled to the Umrangso mine in search of employment to support his family. 

However, tragedy struck when he became one of the miners trapped in a flooded rat-hole mine, a dangerous and illegal mining practice prevalent in the region. The incident led to multiple fatalities, including Rai.

Efforts to rescue the trapped miners have been ongoing since the mishap, with rescue teams recovering Rai’s body as part of the operation. 

The tragic loss has sent waves of grief through his family and the community in Kokrajhar.
