Unidentified body recovered by roadside in Assam’s Tingkhong on Independence Day morning

An unidentified man was found dead by the roadside at Betoni village under Tingkhong Police Station in Assam's Dibrugarh district on August 15, triggering tension in the area.

The body was first spotted by an office-bearer of the local village defence party during the morning hours, following which the police were informed.

According to locals, the deceased had visible injury marks on his head and face, raising suspicion that he may have been murdered.

A syringe, a reddish curtain-like piece of cloth and a piece of cloth tied like a rope were reportedly found near the body.

The body had also started emitting a foul smell, leading to a preliminary suspicion that the incident may have occurred during the previous night.

Local residents suspect that miscreants may have killed the person at another location and dumped the body along the deserted roadside under the cover of darkness. However, the circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be established.

Tingkhong Police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

The exact identity of the deceased and the cause of death are yet to be ascertained. Police are investigating the incident.
