Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal backs Bhaskar Sharma at Margherita rally, cites decade of development

A large election rally was held at Inthem Nagapathar Rangmancha under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency in Tinsukia district on April 3, where Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal campaigned for BJP alliance candidate Bhaskar Sharma.

Sonowal received a warm reception on arrival, with party workers and supporters turning out in significant numbers. The meeting, anchored by senior BJP leader Bhabesh Dutta, saw participation from local BJP mandal committees, Mahila Morcha, BJYM members and a large gathering of residents, estimated at over 10,000.

Addressing the crowd, Sharma delivered the welcome speech and highlighted local organisational efforts ahead of the polls. The rally reflected the BJP’s attempt to consolidate support in the constituency, where the party is seeking another term.

In his address, Sonowal said that “the pace of development in Assam has accelerated” under the BJP-led government over the past ten years. He credited ongoing infrastructure and welfare initiatives as key factors shaping voter confidence.

Focusing on Margherita, Sonowal said that “a lot of development was done” during Sharma’s tenure as a two-term MLA. He added that pending projects would be completed “in the next five years” if Sharma is re-elected.

The Union Minister also referred to schemes targeting Adivasi and Tea Tribes communities, including distribution of land pattas, construction of tea estate high schools and road development works.

Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, Sonowal said BJP workers are “working day and night” and voiced hope that Sharma would secure victory by a large margin, aiming to cross one lakh votes in the constituency.
