United People's Party Liberal to contest 21 seats in upcoming Assam Assembly election
The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) has announced that it will contest a total of 21 seats in the forthcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections, including 15 seats within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) region and six seats outside BTC.
The announcement was made on Friday by the newly appointed central vice-president of the party, Dr. R.N. Sinha, during a press conference held at the UPPL central office in Thanapara, Kokrajhar.
Addressing mediapersons, Dr. Sinha asserted that the UPPL is not a subordinate or proxy party of any other political force. He expressed confidence that the party would secure 14 out of the 15 Assembly seats in the BTC region in the upcoming elections.
He also levelled serious allegations that Muslims in the state are facing atrocities and stated that the UPPL would take responsibility for ensuring political and social security for the Muslim community.
Claiming that the UPPL has emerged as a stronger political force in the state, Dr. Sinha said the party is now bigger than both the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) in terms of influence and public support.
Reiterating the party’s stand on social issues, he stated that the UPPL is firmly against gambling and liquor consumption. He warned that any party member found consuming alcohol or engaging in gambling activities would face expulsion.
Another vice-president of the UPPL, Dr. Ranjit Narzary, was also present at the press conference.
