UPPL backs CJP protest, condemns police action against students

The United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) on July 21 expressed solidarity with the ongoing protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in New Delhi and condemned the police action against students demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Addressing a press conference in Kokrajhar, UPPL General Secretary Raju Kumar Narzary termed the alleged use of lathi-charge and tear gas against peaceful student protesters as "very unfortunate" and said democratic protests should be handled with restraint and dialogue.

"Students are the future of the nation and tomorrow's leaders. Their peaceful protests should be handled with sensitivity and through dialogue rather than force," Narzary said.

The UPPL leader urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene and facilitate an amicable resolution through discussions. He appealed to the Centre to engage with the protesting groups and take appropriate steps to restore normalcy in the national capital.

Reiterating the party's support for democratic values, Narzary said the concerns raised by the students should be addressed through peaceful means rather than coercive action.

The CJP has been staging protests in the national capital, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over issues related to the education sector. The demonstrations have witnessed confrontations between protesters and police, with opposition parties and several organisations criticising the police action.

There was no immediate response from the Union government or Delhi Police to the UPPL's remarks.
